Blithfield briefing 25/2

Welcome to the second news briefing from Blithfield Parish Council in 2025

Admaston  telephone box:   The Admaston telephone box has now returned to it’s usual site, alongside the Admaston lay-by.  It has been something of a team effort, firstly the potential theft was averted by ‘eagle eyed’ and quick thinking Admaston residents, it was rescued and transported to safe storage in Newton.  Plans were then made to re-instate it securely, hopefully to prevent any further attempts to steal or damage it.  It was once again transported back to Admaston and finally, the ‘operation’ was completed with the telephone box standing proudly and securely in it’s rightful position.  Much of the work has been carried out voluntarily and the parish council is very grateful to all concerned.

Admaston Village Gateways:  Our new County Councillor Gary Hales has indicated that he has committed to use some of his funding to lower the Admaston Village signs and add ‘please drive carefully’ to them.

Pressure continues to be applied where ever possible to get a speed restriction through the hamlet too.

Moreton Brook Solar Farm   planning application number P/2024/00696:  Planning permission has now been formally granted, all be it with a lengthy list of conditions.  Aura Power are currently aiming for a grid connection date of September 2027, which means they would look to start construction in Spring 2027.  If you would like to see the full planning consent, please click on the link:   https://www.eaststaffsbc.gov.uk/Northgate/PlanningExplorer/ApplicationSearch.aspx

Police and Crime:  PCSO Tim Leathers, has returned to look after our area alongside PCSO Dominika Bond-Siwek.  They can be contacted at https://www.staffordshire.police.uk/  or directly

Admaston Telephone Reinstated

The Admaston telephone box is now back where it belongs at the entrance to the village, much

to the delight of many of the residents of Admaston and the surrounding area.

Many of you will remember that an attempted theft in February 2024, meant it had to be removed and stored safely until such time that it could be reinstated with reinforced footings.

Blithfield Parish Council would like to thanks all those who have played a part in preventing the theft, transporting and storing the telephone box and finally reinstating it.

The  picture shows Cllr Kevin Massey and Paul Riley having completed the work to securely reinstate the telephone box.

Local Government Reorganisation – East Staffordshire Borough Council

Butterfly Watch – East Staffordshire Borough Council Press Release

17th July 2025

For immediate release

Nature Lovers: Can you help count our local butterflies this summer?

East Staffordshire residents are invited to take part in the Big Butterfly Count, running from Friday 18th July to Sunday 10th August 2025.

This nationwide citizen science survey, run by Butterfly Conservation, has become the world’s largest butterfly survey. Participants need just 15 minutes in bright, sunny weather to count butterflies and day-flying moths in any outdoor space.

The annual count helps assess the health of our environment, as butterflies are vital pollinators and key biodiversity indicators. Unfortunately, UK butterfly and moth numbers have declined significantly since the 1970s, making this survey crucial for conservation efforts.

Cllr Dennis Fletcher, Cabinet Member for Environment and Climate Change, said: “East Staffordshire’s parks and green spaces provide excellent locations for butterfly counting, including Bramshall Road Park in Uttoxeter, Branston Water Park, and the enhanced Washlands area in Burton upon Trent, which support diverse wildlife habitats.”

Taking part is simple – spend 15 minutes counting butterflies in your garden, local park, or any green space during sunny weather. Even recording zero butterflies provides valuable data for researchers.

This activity perfectly supports the Council’s Climate Change and Nature Strategy, particularly our aim to protect and enhance nature across the borough.

To participate, visit www.bigbutterflycount.org or download the app. Identification charts are available to help recognise different species and discover more about East Staffordshire’s beautiful butterfly spotting locations at www.discovereaststaffs.co.uk

Did you know? Butterflies are often called “the pulse of nature” because they react quickly to environmental changes, making them excellent early warning indicators for biodiversity loss.
