New Public Portal – how to use
You can search for an application using the New Public Portal (link below) by click either the Property Search or Planning Application heading:
Searching via the Property Search heading:
- Click into the field called Find Address and type in the first line of the address or you can search using the postcode. As you start to type a list of addresses will appear, once you see the address you are searching for click on it and then click on Search (highlighted in blue towards the bottom of the screen);
- This will then return any planning applications submitted against that address;
- You can then click on the Application Reference Number (should be highlighted in blue) and this will open up the application details.
Searching via the Planning Applications heading:
Under here you can carry out a Simple search using the Application Reference or you can click on Advanced which gives you more search options, such as, Decisions Determined, Received Date, Valid Date, Registered Date or Committee Date (once the application has been determined).
To search via Decision Date:
- Go to the Date Fields;
- Decision Date From and Decision Date To enter the date range you wish to search, i.e. Decision Date From 03/11/2025 and Decision Date to 07/11/2025 and click on Search. This will return all decisions determined during that period;
- You can then click on the Application Reference Number (should be highlighted in blue) and this will open up the application details.
However, please note any decisions made before 17th September 2025 the application documents and decisions will be on the old Northgate Explorer.

Searching for Planning Applications
Applications which are now registered and awaiting a decision, new applications or applications where a decision has been made on or after 18.09.2025 can all be viewed online via our new portal which can be accessed via the following link:

Please note that under the new system an application is given an initial reference number which may be different to the reference number allocated on registration. Either number can be entered in to the search box as the system should recognise each number and provide the same application result. You can also search for a planning application using the site address.
Applications from 1974 to decisions made up to 17.09.2025 where you have a reference number, can still be viewed online using our previous search option accessed via the following link: https://www.eaststaffsbc.gov.uk/Northgate/PlanningExplorer/ApplicationSearch.aspx or you can use the Interactive Planning Map: https://webmapping.eaststaffsbc.gov.uk/map.html.
Please note that the Interactive Planning Map will only show decisions made up to 17.09.2025

Find below a link to the latest weekly list of planning applications. Please click on Weekly Lists (top right corner of the screen), insert the date parameters and click on search. The weekly list shown are only for applications registered from the 1st October 2025.
